Acceptance Testing

“Practical Imaging Informatics:  Foundations and Applications for PACS Professionals”
Chapter 23:  Acceptance Testing
Gary S. Norton, RT(R), BS

The Picture Archive and Communication System (PACS) Acceptance Test (AT) serves as an evaluation of the performance and availability of a digital imaging network.  It can be used to certify contract compliance and identify deficiencies.  It validates the interfaces to a facility’s information systems and radiographic modalities.  An AT checks the system inventory, performance, configuration, and calibration of the PACS components.  The AT is a technical evaluation of a system, to demonstrate readiness of clinical use and can be used as a payment point to the vendor.  Additionally, the AT sets the baseline for a facility’s Quality Control (QC) program that will monitor the PACS in the future.
